J-1 Visa Program

LEAVING YOUR PROGRAM

Completion of your Training Program:

As you are nearing the end of your training you will need to do several things before you leave the country:

  • Make sure that you have your passport and your I-94 card.
  • Contact Pan Atlantic to let us know the date of your departure and to give us feedback about your US training experience. Pan Atlantic will send you a Certificate of Completion of your training. Please send us the address in the US or in your home country where you would like the certificate sent.
  • If you like, request a letter from you supervisor at your host company stating that you successfully completed your training. Ask supervisors and colleagues with whom you worked to be references for you when you apply for jobs upon your return to your home country.
  • Return your original DS-2019 form to Pan Atlantic just before you leave the country.
  • If you plan to travel during the 30 days following the end date on your DS-2019 you must contact Pan Atlantic to extend your insurance by one month so that you are covered during your travels.

Transfers and leaving your training program before your training end date:

If you are having problems with your training you MUST call Pan Atlantic as soon as possible. It is a very serious matter to leave your training; therefore it is only under serious and rare circumstances that a trainee will be transferred, and only after having discussed the matter in detail with Pan Atlantic. We encourage you to speak with your supervisors to see if the problems can be remedied at your current training facility, and only under serious and rare circumstances will a trainee be transferred from one company to another. Do not wait until the situation is beyond help to contact Pan Atlantic!

You may NOT transfer to a new program if:

  • You don't like the geographical location where you are training
  • You do not get along with a colleague or supervisor
  • You hear of another training position elsewhere that you would like better

A trainee MAY be transferred if:

  • The host company closes down
  • The host company is not meeting the specific expectations outlined and agreed to in the Training Plan

An important part of the experience of training in the United States is learning to deal with others whose culture and attitudes differ from your own, and also to learn how to solve problems with colleagues and supervisors. We encourage you to use your good judgment when trying to solve these problems. Again, if something is not going well at your host company please contact your representative at Pan Atlantic as soon as possible- we are here to help!
